In this course we will work on several activities aimed at making the best of the stimuli that nature offers for the development of young children.
The course develops the foundations of Cosmic Education, understanding that it is not just about isolated activities of contact with nature, but about a worldview. We will also see the recently coined “lack of nature” concept, recently developed research that places the child in a place of deep need with nature, providing updated foundations.
Once the course and the activities proposed for each module have been completed, the student will receive a Digital certificate of achievement and completion of the course, issued by the International Montessori Institute, official Montessori pedagogy training center.

1. The cosmic area as the philosophical foundation of the Montessori perspective
The course addresses the main features of the cosmic area, its philosophical foundations of nature as a network of interrelationships, richness towards heterogeneity and respect for everything created.
2. The concept of the Montessori prepared environment and keys to the design of the outdoor environment
In the course we will work on guidelines and criteria to design the outdoor space with the sensory, motor and cognitive richness that the child of this sensitive period needs, knowing the features of the sensitive periods that Montessori detects in human development.
3. Outings as opportunities to connect the child with knowledge of the environment
One of the proposals to connect the child with nature are outings, simple opportunities that are not linked to a distant space, but can be in the garden or balcony, but that when well designed can offer an enormous variety of possibilities for exploration.
4. Proposals for gross and fine motor development incorporating Emmi Pikler’s free movement criteria
Emmi Pikler’s proposal has many points in common with that of M. Montessori; We will review the criteria they have in common for the development of outdoor movement, based on the furniture that Pikler proposes or looking for homemade alternatives.
5. Activities and materials for sensory development
Montessori proposes the development of the child through his senses. The natural environment offers many olfactory, gustatory, tactile, auditory and kinesthetic stimuli. We will see simple proposals for sensory exploration throughout the body.
6. Specific activities that put the child in contact with water, sand and art
The course includes land art proposals for young children and activities with water and sand through the research of Ute Strub, disciple of Emmi Pikler, who invites us to think in depth about the proposals for manipulation that we offer to young children.
