Montessori education is an internationally recognised pedagogical approach. Current scientific research continues to validate this educational method as a set of elements that help children to holistically develop their mind, body and emotions.

International Montessori Institute (IMI) provides the principles and the pedagogical practice of Montessori education and the current scientific evidence, to contribute with concrete proposals to improve the quality of the education.

Faculty

International Montessori Institute (IMI) is a Montessori training centre with a primary purpose: to offer a classic and rigorous Montessori courses based on the main principles of Maria Montessori and adapted to the educational needs of nowadays.

IMI’s objective is to provide training firmly connected to the legacy of Maria Montessori, bringing together the best of Italian and the Anglo-Saxon tradition. For that reason, our trainers have been carefully selected by their diverse international experience, as well as private and public schools, in order to convey the richness of the Montessori method in different social fields.

This interesting combination of trainers makes IMI a unique meeting point in the world, which generates an inter-Montessori dialogue ensuring loyalty to the ideas and vision of Dr Maria Montessori.

Mission Statement

Upon completing this MA degree students will be able to get a deep understanding of the child development from 6 to 12.

Students will know how to apply the Montessori Pedagogical Principles in a prepared environment (classroom).

Specifics Objectives

  • Master the theoretical core of Montessori education and its objectives.
    To deeply understand Prepared Environment suitable for learning, its characteristics and functioning.
  • Learn how to design a Montessori classroom or any alternative Prepared Environment.
  • Get an interdisciplinary overview of all curricular areas (Practical Life, Sensorial Material, Language, Mathematics, History, Biology, Geography, Music and Art)
  • Dominate their curriculum, subjects and the logical sequencing of all activities.
  • Fluently manage Montessori Materials understanding their objectives in depth and master presentation techniques.
  • Establish a learning classroom environment and help children to develop their executive functions.
  • Develop the role of the Montessori teacher who sets children in relation with the Prepared Environment and help them to increase all their potentialities.
  • To understand that the constant external and internal observation is the base of the Montessori Education.
  • Assume the importance of emotional education and master those skills required to promote it.
  • To know learning potentialities of the brain and neuroscientist bases that validate this pedagogical method.

Currently, around the world, there’s a wide demand for professionals with solid Montessori training to set up new projects. This is due to the demand of many families who are searching for a different and more respectful education for their children.

This MA is designed for all those with an interest in elementary education from six to twelve years of age. The knowledge acquired is applicable for a wide range of professionals.

Learning Methodology: All areas of Montessori practice are based on the practical application of deeply personal work, thus ensuring the acquisition and understanding of all tools necessary to apply Montessori education to life and classrooms.

A learning process accompanied by continuous assessment and the creation of personal Montessori albums by each student. The Montessori albums are a classic tool of a good Montessori teacher and accompany him/her throughout his/her entire professional life.

sensorial Material

Dr. Montessori believed that sensorial materials were authentic “keys of the universe” as they exercises what is the mind’s powerhouse at this age: the senses.

The scientific design of sensory materials makes them a genuine development aid.

Students explore them in detail in order to fully use their potential.

Languaje

Language is the main focus of community life and learning.

Oral language plays an essential role in Montessori environments from the beginning and gradually, literacy is introduced naturally and spontaneously.

In Montessori education the language is intertwined with all other areas of learning.

Mathematics

Maria Montessori incorporates Blaise Pascal’s concept of the “mathematical mind” and transforms it into an educational reality.

Specific materials that accompany the natural process of the mind towards mathematical abstraction.

All activities and presentations necessary to provide children with a solid mathematical foundation.

Cultural Areas

Encourage children’s curiosity about the natural and cultural world around them. Significant experience as the basis of scientific discovery.

Montessori Practice

On-site:

Presentation of all Montessori materials and activities by expert trainers in each Montessori area.
Gradual development of personal Montessori albums by each student, this includes guidance, monitoring and support.
5 weeks each summer in intensive morning and afternoon schedule.
The third and final face-to-face stage also includes the final examinations for the diploma.

Montessori Theory

Online

Montessori theory with added information about general teaching theory and neuroscience.
Each subject is offered by a specialised teacher in various areas of study.
Continuous assessment activities to ensure students fully understand the course content.

 

Schedule
This unique programme includes:

  • Online course.
  • Observation of infants in a school environment.
  • In-person supervised practices and elaboration of educational materials.
  • Student teaching practice.
  • Albums review and preparation for the exam.
  • Final exam.

This MA is dynamically divided into four phases, three of them on-site and one online.

On-site phases are carried out in Campus Mundet in the University of Barcelona, in a Montessori Prepared Environment with Montessori Materials of each area.

On-line phase is carried out through IMI’s virtual campus, where you will have access to all theoretical contents 24 hours a day.

2nd Phase: Montessori Theory

November 4, 2019, to 31 May 2020

2.1: Discover and explore the theoretical basis on which Montessori practice is based.

2.2: January 14 to February 14 2020. Online guidance, monitoring and support for developing Montessori albums.

3rd Phase: Montessori Practice II

On-Site

June 29 to July 31 2020

3.1: Presentations of materials and activities in each curriculum area by our Montessori professional Guides.

3.2: (Online) January 18 to February 19 2021: Online guidance, monitoring and support for developing Montessori albums.

4th Phase: Montessori Practice III

On-Site

June 28, 2021, to 30 July to 2021.

4.1: Week for final theory concepts.

4.2: Monitored practices with Montessori materials.

4.3: Delivery of Montessori Albums.

4.4: Final Exam.

Double Degree Training

Students who pass the course will obtain the MA degree in Montessori Elementary Education issued by

the University of Barcelona and MONTESSORI Teacher/Guide “Infant & Toddler (0-3) and “Children’s house (3-6)” 

issued by International Montessori Institute

Admission requirements:

University qualification to obtain the master’s degree in Montessori Education (or candidates can opt to obtain a university extension diploma).

Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:

Students who are not university graduates may be admitted on these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate

DESISTIMIENTO DEL CURSO.
