PRESENTATION
Master’s degree in Montessori Pedagogy for the Preschool stage, taught by the International Montessori Institute (IMI) in collaboration with the Universidad de Barcelona (UB).
Dr Maria Montessori brought forth through her method a pedagogical approach endorsed by the scientific community and worldwide recognised. The objective of this pedagogy is to educate human beings as unique people with training to act with freedom, intelligence and dignity.
Montessori education is a pedagogical approach of wide recognition at international level; Dr María Montessori developed during the first half of the twentieth century an educational method based on the scientific observation of children: their various stages of development throughout life, their potential, their interests and their capabilities.
Current scientific research continues to validate her educational method every day as a set of elements that help our children and students in their holistic development of mind, body and emotions.
This Master’s degree from a classical Montessorian perspective offers comprehensive training, providing an adequate scientific, philosophical and methodological basis. Training the student to work as a Montessori Guide in stages 0-3 and 3-6 years, with the aim of contributing, with a global pedagogical approach, to the quality of children education.

Know the learning potential of the brain and the neuroscientific bases that validate Montessori Education.
Manipulate Montessori Materials, understanding their purpose and objectives in depth.
Develop a suitable environment prepared for this age stage.

STUDY PLAN
Historical context: History and life of Maria Montessori: the fascinating history of Dr Montessori and her educational method, which spread fast and staunchly throughout the world.
Montessori Philosophy: A broad theoretical foundation rooted in the scientific observation of human nature.
Teaching Approach: Didactic models, processes and experiences in educational innovation, observation methodology, design of Prepared Environments, classroom management, emotional education in school.
The Role of the Adult: The adult in relation to the child, the importance of Observation and caring for relationships.
Prepared Environment: The Montessori classroom prepared environment as a basic element, its adequacy and management.
Scientific Validations of Montessori pedagogy, from psychology to Neuroscience
Observation techniques: Montessori Education has been developed from the scientific observation of children’s nature. The importance of training this skill which classroom management is based on in a Montessori prepared environment.
Practical Life: Dr Montessori proposed Practical Life activities as a bridge between the house and the school environment. These activities allow a holistic development of mind, body and emotions. Motor coordination, development of autonomy, adaptation to the environment and concentration capabilities that lay the foundations for all subsequent learning. Future teachers learn to prepare and present them in exquisite detail.
Sensory Material: Dr Montessori considers Sensory Materials as authentic “keys of the Universe” since they train the power sources of our mind at this age: the senses. The scientific design of the Sensory Materials makes them real development aids. Students explore them in detail so they can extract the full potential from them.
Language: The backbone of community life and learning. Oral language plays an essential role in Montessori environments from the beginning and, little by little, literacy is introduced naturally and spontaneously. In Montessori Education, language is interrelated with all other areas of learning.
Mathematics: Dr Montessori collects the concept of the “mathematical mind” of Blaise Pascal and transforms it into a didactic reality. Concrete materials that accompany the natural process of the mind towards mathematical abstraction. All the activities and presentations that necessary to offer a solid mathematical base to children.
Cultural areas: Arouse children’s admiration for the natural and cultural world around them. Meaningful experiences as the basis of scientific discovery. Develop deep respect for the whole of humanity and nature, history, geography, biology, art and music as an interrelated whole.
