Master’s degree in Montessori Education

Master’s degree in Montessori education specialized in preschool or elementary education certified by the University of Barcelona (UB) and recognised by IMI. This academic training provides the scientific, philosophical and practical knowledge for teachers to work in specialized Montessori schools and in classrooms that use the Montessori Method.

We are currently offering a Master’s degree in Montessori Education with two specialities, preschool and elementary. Preschool MA degree offers you the opportunity to work at specialized Montessori centers in the 0-6 class. Elementary MA degree offers you the opportunity to work at specialized Montessori centers in the 6-12 class.

With this training, you will learn knowledge about Montessori Methodology such as:

Prepared Environment

The teacher sets the environment in a Montessori class carefully, with aesthetically prepared materials presented sequentially, focused on the developmental needs of the child. The Prepared Environment contains appropriate furnishings to the size of the child, Montessori Materials and enough space that allows the child to work in peace, either alone or in a group.

The absorbent mind

The child from birth to six years of age has an “absorbent mind”. In this period of development, we can observe very rapid and significant mental changes. This period of mental growth represents a unique learning opportunity.

Sensitive periods

Maria Montessori noticed that children go through phases of interest and curiosity, what she called “sensitive periods”. These periods are windows of opportunity in which the child is interested in something very intense, constantly repeats, until he/she can dominate it.

Sensorial exercises

These activities develop and refine the five senses—seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling—and build a foundation for speech, writing and maths using sensorial materials.

The main aim of Montessori Education is to help each child to reach his/her full potential in all areas of life. Activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation for future intellectual academic endeavours. The Montessori Method allows children to experience and learn while they enjoy and develop their self-esteem and autonomy.

Montessori teachers, a classroom with a variety of ages, the use of Montessori Materials, a work focused on the child and periods of uninterrupted work are basic elements of this pedagogy and should be the goal of any Montessori Education School.

In this training, we will teach you how to recognize and take advantage of perceptual stages of the children, through the introduction of materials and activities specially designed to stimulate their mind and create for themselves the knowledge and experience of life.
